Marcia Boeche - American Sign Language and Creative Kids
Marcia Boeche, with her energetic and creative approach to teaching children, is well-known throughout North County. Marcia visits Shantivanam Children's Community in Encinitas twice a week and is a favorite with all of the children. One day a week she teaches American Sign Language as she sings and dances with the children. On the other day Marcia engages the children in creative expression through art, music, and dance.
Marcia completed all of the American Sign Language courses necessary for a Bachelors Degree from the prestigious interpreting program at Palomar College. She is fluent in the language and active in the local deaf community. She also teaches parents how to communicate with pre-verbal hearing babies by using American Sign Language and she is a certified teacher with the Sign 2 Me Program.
Marcia teaches ASL to elementary school children at The Rhoades School and "The Kids College", an after school arts and language enrichment program. Marcia is well-known at the Magdalena Ecke YMCA in Encinitas where she teaches Creative Kids classes for toddlers from 18 months to 36 months. These classes include music and movement, crafts, story time and circle time.
Marcia loves to read and walk on the beach, and she enjoys time with her family and friends. She has been happily married to her husband Kurt for 27 years and they have two children, Brian 26 and Briana, 24.
